Magnolia Press is a small publisher with big dreams. We pride ourselves on publishing bold stories by brave voices, no matter the genre. From short story collections, to young adult fantasy, to literary fiction and everything in between, our goal at Magnolia is to help grow good stories, one page at a time.

What started as a small imprint to self-publish her own books under, Nicole has had plans for Magnolia to become something more even before she decided to publish Without Benefits on her own. Since then, with the help and support of authors and fellow publishers, she's finally able to make this dream come true. Now, it’s her turn to help make other authors’ dreams come true.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Okay, but who are you? Formally known as Pen Name Publishing, we’ve taking on a new name, new look, but have kept the same core values: we want to promote and lift up bold stories and bold voices.

  2. I’m not in the US, can I still submit? Yes! Being a remote company opens up doors to work with authors all over the world. But, we do only publish manuscripts written in English at this time.

  3. How does distribution work? We use IngramSpark for global distribution. This means your books, paperback and ebook, will be available for sale through a variety of book retailer websites all over the world. These include, but are not limited to, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, iBooks, IndieBound, and Kobo.

  4. How many books do you plan for first print runs? We operate on a print-on-demand publishing model, which means when either one book or a large quantity of books are ordered, that’s when your books are printed and shipped. Not only is this more cost effective for small presses, but it’s more environmentally friendly!

  5. Will my book be in stores? This is handled on a case-by-case basis. Currently, Magnolia’s main focus is on digital sales. As we grow, we do plan on having physical presence in your favorite bookstore.

  6. How much marketing will I have to do? We look at marketing as a team effort between the author and our marketing department. Individualized plans will be made between signed authors and our marketing director. That said, do be prepared to have a strong online presence in at least one form of social media and a website (potential) readers can find more information about you and your books. Unfortunately, the days where authors get to just write their books are over and they must take an active role in selling their book.

  7. What will this cost me? We don’t charge. Period. Magnolia is not a vanity press and will never charge for editing, cover design, formatting, etc.

  8. You offered me a contract! Is it okay if I have my lawyer look it over? YES. If anyone ever tells you no, RUN.
